Synology: Take videos and live sessions with your Synology

With your Synology you can observe your home or anything what is important to you - even with more than one camera. You can review the videos taken or switch to the live session to the see live what is going on.

By the time my parrot was sick, the Synology Surveillance Station was there to monitor the health of my parrot. I could give the videos taken to my vet and he could treat instantly my pet ans save it life.

Synology has to offer several possibilities

With your Synology you can not only observe objects but take videos too. You can use your own Synology or use Synology's cloud version C2 to save these videos. For latter you would need a subscription.

The setup is not hard and you also watch your videos with your iOS/Android device using Synology' apps. If you synology is connected to the internet you can also watch the videos or connect to a live stream on the road.

Setup of your Synology

Go to the package center and down load the package Synology Surveillance Station. With one click on open you will be connected to a new tab in your browser and the wizard will help you to do the initial setup. You can also skip it and do it manually.

The app offers several option you can use to individualise your videos and live stream. There are also rules which can be applied if needed.

You would need an IP camera which will go with your Synology. There are several cameras out of the market and you should choose one, which applies to your needs for recording. Personally, I used one with night capture so I can let run my Synology 24/7 and record the videos.

The setup of the camera is easy too and the setup wizard will guide you through. Please refer also to the manual of your IP camera.

Taken videos and shared folders

I recommend to create a new shared folder for all your videos. They should not be saved under videos or photos - keep them seperated. The advantage is that all the videos which will captured are at on specific location where you can amend or delete them easily.

After the setup you can start right away with your IP cam and your CCTV.

You can but you do not have to setup rules for the capturing process of your Synology.

Setup under iOS

Download the app DS Cam to your mobile device and open it. The setup wizard will guide you through the setup. If you use QuickID or a DNS where you can reach your Synology from the Internet, you can watch your videos and view live steam while abroad.
